Jeep sold the original Wagoneer for twenty-eight years with barely a change, from 1963 to 1991, which makes it one of the longest runs of any vehicle built in the United States.

Jeep has used the Wagoneer name since 1963, on the first four-wheel-drive vehicle sold with an automatic gearbox and independent front suspension. It is the model that opened the class every large sport utility now belongs to.
