This 1973 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet has been reworked for today's roads, mostly by the air-cooled Volkswagen specialists Type 2 Detectives: a 1,641 cc Type 1 turnkey engine, a resealed and realigned gearbox with a new clutch, Porsche 924 rear brake parts, Bilstein dampers and fresh bearings. Trim Classics reshaped the front seats and covered the cabin in Espresso leather with houndstooth inserts.
STR8 Paint & Restorations then corrected the paint on the nose, the lower driver's side, a door edge and the rear deck lid before machine-polishing the whole body. Later work refreshed the door locks and mechanisms, and the history file records every invoice.
The car is located in Bramley, United Kingdom.
The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Cabriolet uses the air-cooled 1,584 cc flat-four mounted at the rear, rated at 50 PS (37 kW) and 106 Nm at 2,800 rpm in factory form, for 140 km/h, with a four-speed manual gearbox with a central lever, driving the rear wheels. Karmann in Osnabrück built the body on the Beetle platform, its panels shaped and welded by hand, to a design by Ghia.

FAQ
At £49,850, about €58,154, it sits above the median of €41,855 for the 39 Volkswagen advertised in Europe in 2026. 74% of them are advertised for less. Asking prices are not transaction prices, and specification differences explain much of the spread.
The car is located in Bramley, United Kingdom. The dealer has not stated whether the price is quoted gross, net of VAT for export, or under the margin scheme. Cross-border purchase is normal for this kind of car, but the documentation, the certificate of conformity, transport and the registration rules of the destination country all have to be settled with the selling dealer first.
The manufacturer's base list price was €4,494 in Germany, excluding options. This car is advertised at £49,850, with no VAT basis stated by the seller, so no percentage comparison is given. A list price is the launch price of the version without options, so a heavily specified car left the factory above it, and it says nothing about what the car is worth today. That 1970 list price is converted to euros with no adjustment for inflation.
4,484 km recorded, against a median of 44,586 km across the Volkswagen advertised in Europe in 2026. It is therefore among the lower-mileage cars currently listed. Service records and ownership details should be checked against the documents held by the selling dealer.
a 2025 car in Czechia at €54,777, and a 1975 car in the Netherlands at €53,500. Observed in 2026. Comparing them means putting model year, mileage, factory options and the VAT basis side by side before the price itself.
