About the Maserati MC20 Cielo

The Cielo folds a two-piece hard top in twelve seconds, and its glass panel darkens on command rather than by a blind. The carbon tub needs no strengthening for the open body, which costs only sixty-five kilograms. The pre-chamber sits above the main combustion chamber with its own spark plug: it fires first and sends jets of flame down into the cylinder, which burns a leaner mixture faster than a single plug can. Maserati was the first to put the idea in a road car.

Maserati builds the MC20 at Modena, in the works on the Viale Ciro Menotti where the marque has been since 1940. It was the first car of the marque's own design in fifteen years, and the first with an engine Maserati built itself since 1998.
