The structure is the D7x aluminium monocoque, its track widened by 68 mm, on the hydraulically interlinked dampers Land Rover calls 6D Dynamics. OCTA is the fastest Defender Land Rover has built, named after the octahedral shape of a diamond, and it sits above the V8 in the range.

Land Rover has built at Solihull since 1948 and has belonged, with Jaguar, to Tata Motors since 2008. Its Ingenium petrol and diesel engines are made at Wolverhampton, and the range is split into three families: Defender, Discovery and Range Rover.
