The Austin-Healey 100/6 BN4 uses the 2,639 cc BMC C-Series straight-six, in the form revised in 1957 with a reworked cylinder head and an external inlet tract, with a manual gearbox driving the rigid rear axle, the overdrive being no longer standard as on the 100 but still available as an extra.

The 100/6 replaced the four-cylinder 100 in 1956 and made way for the Austin-Healey 3000 in 1959. Production moved in 1957 from Longbridge to the MG plant at Abingdon: 7,053 BN4s were built at Longbridge and 4,241 at Abingdon, beside 4,150 examples of the two-seat BN6 that joined the range.
