The 1,598 cm³ turbocharged V6 works with four electric motors for a system output quoted by the dealer at 1,063 PS, 782 kW, through a seven speed automated manual gearbox, with 12 kilometres of electric range. The number that matters is the displacement: 1.6 litres, because this is the Formula 1 power unit of the Mercedes works team put into a road car, with the same architecture and the same electrically driven turbocharger. Nothing else on the road has been built this way, and the project took years longer than announced because making that engine idle in traffic and pass emissions testing turned out to be the hard part.
