The Mk III Cobra of 1965 to 1967 has a frame of 4-inch main tubes, up from 3 inches, with coil springs all round, for a kerb weight of 1,068 kg. Only 56 of the 100 competition chassis needed for homologation were finished by April 1965, and 31 unsold competition cars were given windscreens to become the semi-competition 427 S/C, good for 298 km/h.
Shelby American built the Cobra in California on chassis from AC Cars of Thames Ditton until 1967, and it has built Cobras again since the 1990s.
