The Targa is the open 911 that keeps a fixed roll bar and a removable roof panel over the front seats, rather than a full convertible top. The modern cars fold the panel away under the rear screen in one movement.

The name comes from the Targa Florio, the road race in Sicily where Porsche took eleven outright wins. Porsche has built the 911 without interruption since September 1964.
