1956 Ferrari 750 Monza Speciale for Sale in the United Kingdom

The second 750 Monza Ferrari supplied to the French driver François Picard, ordered to replace the one he had crashed heavily in May 1955, and delivered in February 1956 after a nine-month wait.

It is not a standard 750 Monza. Ferrari built it on the later oval-tube Tipo 510 chassis, stiffer in torsion and closer to the 857 S, 860 Monza and 290 MM that followed than to the Monzas that came before it, and Scaglietti bodied it uniquely: a pronounced indented belt line whose design language would not reappear until the pontoon-fendered 250 Testa Rossas. That body is also why the car is identifiable in period photographs, and why its competition record turned out to be far longer than the 1989 Cavallino article recorded.

Picard ordered it in French Racing Blue, which it kept for its first eighteen months, and debuted it at the Agadir Grand Prix on 26 February 1956, finishing third behind the works Ferraris of Maurice Trintignant and Harry Schell. A third place in the Paris 1000 km followed, shared with Trintignant, and the car was also raced by Bremer and Alfonso de Portago. It was then stored for twenty-five years until its rediscovery in 1988, and has since built a considerable modern competition record with multiple class wins and podiums.
