1960 Lotus Elite Type 14 Competition for Sale in the United Kingdom

This 1960 Lotus Elite Type 14 Competition is a used car. It is equipped with a manual transmission. The car is finished in Moonstone White with a Black interior.

Chassis 1182 was Innes Ireland's car in 1960, a gift under his Team Lotus Formula One contract that Colin Chapman handed over in person, as photographs in the file show. Ireland drove it only on the road, to races and press events. A year later an RAF pilot and amateur racer bought it, prepared it to stage 3 tune and raced it across Europe from 1961 to 1963, with podiums at Spa, Brussels, Snetterton, Silverstone, Castle Combe and Charterhall; at Spa in 1961 it finished ahead of three works Porsches.

It also started the Goodwood Tourist Trophy in 1962 and 1963. In a leading British collection since 2021, it has just completed a two-year ground-up restoration by Hawker Racing, and it is eligible for the Goodwood Revival, the Members' Meeting and other historic events.

The car is located in Ashford, United Kingdom.

FAQ

This Lotus Elite Type 14 in the European market

Can this Lotus be bought in the United Kingdom and registered elsewhere in Europe?

The car is located in Ashford, United Kingdom. The dealer has not stated whether the price is quoted gross, net of VAT for export, or under the margin scheme. Cross-border purchase is normal for this kind of car, but the documentation, the certificate of conformity, transport and the registration rules of the destination country all have to be settled with the selling dealer first.

Who is selling this Lotus Elite Type 14, and how does a purchase work?

Simon Furlonger, a professional dealer in Ashford, United Kingdom. LUSSO lists the car and passes enquiries to that dealer; the inspection, the negotiation, the invoice and the transfer of ownership all take place directly between the buyer and the dealer. LUSSO does not hold stock, take deposits or act as an intermediary in payment.

Can this Lotus Elite Type 14 be inspected before purchase?

The car is at Ashford, United Kingdom, and an inspection is arranged with the selling dealer. Buyers based in another country commonly appoint an independent inspector or a marque specialist rather than travel. Ask the dealer for the service record, the number of previous owners and any accident history, with supporting documents for the information stated in the listing.

Is this Lotus Elite Type 14 still available?

LUSSO republishes what the selling dealer advertises, and a car in demand is sometimes reserved or sold before the dealer updates its own site. Confirm current availability with Simon Furlonger before travelling or committing funds. An enquiry sent from this page reaches that dealer directly.

What is needed to register this car if it does not stay in the United Kingdom?

A cross-border registration normally requires the vehicle registration document, the certificate of conformity or an equivalent type-approval record, the purchase invoice showing the VAT treatment, and proof that any tax due in the destination country has been settled. Temporary export plates and transport insurance are arranged either by the dealer or by the buyer. Requirements differ by country and should be confirmed with the selling dealer before payment.

Where can I see the wider Lotus market?

LUSSO publishes a market overview for the Elite Type 14, covering current asking prices in Europe, availability by country, why prices differ, how VAT works on a cross-border purchase and what to compare between two cars.
