Lotus Elite for Sale

The Type 14 of 1957 to 1963 was the first car with a glass-fibre monocoque, a stressed body with no separate chassis, and weighed about 600 kg; it has independent suspension all round with Chapman struts at the rear, won its class six times at Le Mans, and 1,030 were built.

Lotus has built road cars at Hethel in Norfolk since 1966, after Hornsey and Cheshunt, and Colin Chapman's rule of adding lightness runs from the Seven and the Elite to the Elise and the Emira; the Elite name was used again for the wedge-shaped Type 75 of 1974.
