By 1968 the first-generation Ford Mustang, launched in 1964, had grown more muscular, and the fastback with its long bonnet and sweeping roofline was the body most people wanted, all the more after Steve McQueen drove a Highland Green Mustang GT fastback through San Francisco in the film Bullitt that year. The 1968 range brought the new 302 cu in small-block V8.
This left-hand-drive fastback was built at Dearborn on 8 December 1967 and sold on 2 February 1968 through Canal Motors of New Orleans, as its Deluxe Marti Report confirms. It left the factory in Highland Green with the 302 V8, a C-4 automatic, power steering, air conditioning, an AM radio, a centre console, the deluxe steering wheel and tinted glass. It now runs a 347 cu in, 5.7-litre stroker V8 with a Tremec T5 five-speed manual, reworked suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, Wilwood brakes on all four wheels and 17-inch wheels on 225/45 and 245/45 R17 tyres, and the seat pans have been lowered for headroom. JZM Porsche rebuilt the carburettor in August 2026. The dealer quotes 9,875 miles, about 15,892 km.
