John Tojeiro's light ladder frame of steel tubes carries independent suspension by transverse leaf springs at both ends, under a hand-formed aluminium body. Front disc brakes became an option in 1957 and standard for 1958. The Ace is an open two-seater; from 1956 buyers could also choose a Bristol engine instead of the AC unit.
AC Cars built the Ace at Thames Ditton from 1953; about 226 were made with the AC engine.

The AC Ace uses AC's own 1,991 cc overhead-camshaft straight-six, a design dating from just after the First World War, with three SU carburettors, rated at 86 PS at launch, 103 PS (102 bhp) at 5,000 rpm from 1958, a top speed of 166 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds.
The AC Ace drives through a four-speed Moss manual gearbox driving the rear wheels, with overdrive available from 1956.
