Carrozzeria Touring designed the open body on a 2,500 mm wheelbase. Double wishbones guide the front wheels and a live axle on coil springs the rear, and hydraulic drum brakes are fitted all round. It began as a two-seater, and a 2+2 layout became available in 1961.

Alfa Romeo built the 102-series 2000 Spider at its Portello plant in Milan from 1958 to 1962, 3,458 in all counting the bare chassis, before the 2600 replaced it.
