About the Alfa Romeo GTA

The A stands for alleggerita, lightened: the steel panels of the Giulia Sprint GT are replaced by aluminium ones, which takes some two hundred kilograms out of the car, and the twin-plug head comes from Autodelta, Alfa Romeo's racing department.

Alfa Romeo built about five hundred GTA from 1965, enough to homologate the car for touring car racing, which it then won across Europe for a decade. Bertone drew the body, and Autodelta prepared the competition cars at Settimo Milanese.
