It kept the wheelbase and body of the 100-6 on a ladder chassis, but gained Girling front disc brakes; weather protection was still a folding hood on a light frame and detachable side screens with sliding perspex panels.
Announced on 1 July 1959, the 3000 had bodies made by Jensen and was assembled at the MG works in Abingdon. 13,650 Mark Is were built: 2,825 BN7 two-seaters and 10,825 BT7 2+2s; wire wheels, overdrive and a heater were options.
