‘HEM-6’ is one of the most documented competition Cobras in existence, and one of the few still doing the job it was built for. AC Cars built it to competition specification with cut-back doors and FIA-compliant flared arches, and delivered it without engine or transmission to the British privateer C.T. ‘Tommy’ Atkins of High Efficiency Motors, the sixth car the team prepared, which is where its designation comes from.
Atkins entered it for the 1964 season with Roy Salvadori driving, including the RAC Tourist Trophy at Goodwood, and Chris Amon also raced it in period. It won the Sussex Trophy in 1965 and took a class win in the Whitsun Trophy the same year, then returned to Goodwood for the inaugural Revival in 1998 and has been a fixture there since, with seven RAC Tourist Trophy Celebration podiums, three pole positions and a win in 2021. It ran at the Revival again in 2025.
It has been in the same family since 1995 and comes with an exceptional history file: works invoices, period photographs, contemporary press and extensive documentation. Its FIA Historic Technical Passport runs to 31 December 2028, so it is eligible and immediately competitive at the front of the historic grids. Right-hand drive, manual.
This 1964 AC Cobra 289 Competition is offered for sale. It is equipped with a manual transmission.

FAQ
How this car sits against the other AC Cobra advertised in Europe on 2026, and what to settle before a cross-border purchase.
The car is located in Chorleywood, United Kingdom. The dealer has not stated whether the price is quoted gross, net of VAT for export, or under the margin scheme. Cross-border purchase is normal for this kind of car, but the documentation, the certificate of conformity, transport and the registration rules of the destination country all have to be settled with the selling dealer first.
DK Engineering, a professional dealer in Chorleywood, United Kingdom. LUSSO lists the car and passes enquiries to that dealer; the inspection, the negotiation, the invoice and the transfer of ownership all take place directly between the buyer and the dealer. LUSSO does not hold stock, take deposits or act as an intermediary in payment.
The car is at Chorleywood, United Kingdom, and an inspection is arranged with the selling dealer. Buyers based in another country commonly appoint an independent inspector or a marque specialist rather than travel. Ask the dealer for the service record, the number of previous owners and any accident history: LUSSO does not publish these and cannot confirm them.
LUSSO republishes what the selling dealer advertises, and a car in demand is sometimes reserved or sold before the dealer updates its own site. Confirm current availability with DK Engineering before travelling or committing funds. An enquiry sent from this page reaches that dealer directly.
A cross-border registration normally requires the vehicle registration document, the certificate of conformity or an equivalent type-approval record, the purchase invoice showing the VAT treatment, and proof that any tax due in the destination country has been settled. Temporary export plates and transport insurance are arranged either by the dealer or by the buyer. Requirements differ by country and should be confirmed with the selling dealer before payment.
