About the Ferrari 550 Maranello

The 550 brought Ferrari's two-seat V12 back to the front after the Boxer and Testarossa years: a tubular steel spaceframe carries aluminium panels, with double wishbones all round, 330 mm front and 310 mm rear vented discs, and a drag coefficient of 0.33. The traction control can be set on two levels or switched off entirely, and the rack-and-pinion steering has variable power assistance.

Unveiled at the Nürburgring in July 1996, the 550 Maranello was built at Maranello until 2001, 3,083 cars in all. The name joins the 5.5 litres to the town, and the 575M replaced it in 2002.
