The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 uses the 2,687 cc air-cooled flat-six taken over from the Carrera RS 2.7, with a 90 mm bore, a 70.4 mm stroke and Bosch mechanical fuel injection, with the type 915 manual gearbox with a conventional H pattern, derived from that of the Porsche 908 race car, driving the rear wheels.

Built at Zuffenhausen for 1974 and 1975, the Carrera 2.7 topped a range of three models, above the 150 PS 911 and the 175 PS 911 S, both on K-Jetronic injection. The G series of model year 1974 brought the 2,687 cc engine and the impact bumpers required by United States law, and the Carrera 3.0 took over for 1976.
