Bert Bertelli, technical director and designer of every new Aston Martin from 1926 to 1937, conceived the Speed Model as the racing derivative of the 2-litre 15/98, and most bodies of the period came from his brother Harry's coachworks. The works team was wound up after the 1936 Le Mans race was cancelled.
Aston Martin then built its cars at Feltham, Middlesex, under Sir Arthur Sutherland, who had taken control at the end of 1932. Built from 1936 to 1939 as the A, B and C types on a common chassis, the Speed Model kept racing after the war; St John Horsfall won the 2-litre class of the 1938 Tourist Trophy at Donington in one.
The available examples are all from the 1937 model year.
