The Boano is the first series of the Pinin Farina-designed 250 GT Coupé: shown as a prototype at Geneva in March 1956, it was bodied by Carrozzeria Boano in Grugliasco because Pinin Farina was still enlarging its own works. Carrozzeria Boano built 74 coupés on the 2,600 mm long-wheelbase chassis, with a low roof of 1,346 mm, an oval grille carrying the fog lamps and squared tail fins.
When Mario Felice Boano left for Fiat's styling centre in 1957, his son-in-law Ezio Ellena and Luciano Pollo carried on the work as Carrozzeria Ellena, raising the roof and dropping the quarter-lights: those later cars are the 250 GT Ellena. Pinin Farina then took production in-house with the 250 GT Coupé Pinin Farina of 1958.
The available examples are all from the 1957 model year.
