The GLE 580 arrived in August 2019 as the only V8 of the non-AMG range, on a 2,995 mm wheelbase; the 48-volt network that feeds its starter-generator also powers the optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension with Road Surface Scan. For the first time under the GLE name, a seven-seat version is offered.

Mercedes-Benz builds the 167 series at Tuscaloosa in Alabama; the GLE was first shown at the Paris motor show in October 2018 and facelifted in July 2023, when the 580 kept its V8.
