About the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

McLaren placed the engine about 50 cm behind the front axle in a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic structure, for a kerb weight of 1,750 kg. Carbon-ceramic brakes work with an active air brake that rises to 10 or 30 degrees. Butterfly doors open onto the cabin, and the automatic gearbox offers three manual modes.

The SLR was developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, then 40 percent owned by Mercedes, and its name recalls the 300 SLR. Mercedes did the styling, while McLaren engineered and built every car at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.
