It shares engine, suspension and chassis parts with the 300 SL and, with the 300 Adenauer saloon, a pedal-operated central chassis lubrication and a rear self-levelling system worked from the dashboard. It was offered as a 2+2 coupé, a Cabriolet A and a two-seat roadster, all built by hand and priced about half as much again as the Adenauer.
Unveiled at the Paris Salon in October 1951, the 300 S was built from July 1952 to August 1955 in 560 examples: 216 coupés, 203 Cabriolet A and 141 roadsters.
The available examples are all from the 1953 model year.
