About the BMW 7 Series

Seven generations since 1977: E23, E32, E38, E65, F01, G11 and the G70 of 2022. Engines have run from straight sixes on the early cars to fours, V8s and V12s, naturally aspirated and turbocharged. The G70 dropped the V12 and offers a 3.0-litre straight six, a 4.4-litre V8 and the electric i7.

The 7 Series is where BMW puts its new technology first: the E23 brought an onboard computer, a service interval indicator and ABS, and the E38 was the first car offered with curtain airbags. Because the name spans nearly fifty years and every engine the firm has built, the cars listed here differ widely. BMW has built cars at Munich since 1928.
