About the BMW 850Ci

The E31 was one of the first BMWs with a multi-link rear axle, and its pillarless coupé body, with no B-pillar, has a drag coefficient of 0.29. With no B-pillar, the side windows of the coupé leave the whole flank open once lowered.

Klaus Kapitza's design for the E31 dates from 1986, and BMW built 30,609 of them at Dingolfing up to 1999. The 850i took the name 850Ci in the autumn of 1993, and the 5.4-litre M73 followed in 1994.
