About H.R. Owen

H.R. Owen is a franchised luxury car retail group founded in Mayfair in 1932 by Captain Harold Rolfe Owen, a Royal Flying Corps airman who moved into the motor trade after being injured in the First World War. The business has carried the name H.R. Owen Plc since 1997, and majority ownership passed to the Berjaya Group in 2013. Its head office is at Melton Court on Old Brompton Road in South Kensington, and its showrooms run from Berkeley Square and Piccadilly out to Hatfield, Pangbourne, Ripley, Cheltenham, Cardiff and Manchester.

The group holds UK franchises for Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus and Rolls-Royce, and it also represents BAC, Czinger, Hennessey, Rimac and Zenvo. Jack Barclay Bentley, on Berkeley Square in Mayfair, joined the group in 2000 and describes itself as the oldest Bentley dealership in the world. Alongside the franchised showrooms it runs H.R. Owen Specialist Cars, which sells marques the group does not franchise, and The Vault, a supercar storage facility at Hatfield.

Its approved used inventory is drawn from the same showrooms as the new-car business and is presented as one catalogue. Bentley is the largest single marque in it, ahead of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce, with a smaller number of cars from marques the group does not franchise. Because the stock is spread across more than twenty showrooms, every listing states the site that holds the car.

The group states that it buys in only cars that have passed a verification and service-history check, that its own technicians prepare them before sale, and that each is offered with a manufacturer-approved warranty or its H.R. Owen Auto Protect warranty together with a roadside assistance package. Prices are published in pound sterling and include VAT.
